Green with Envy

My second SUCESSFUL project!

I am not gonna lie, this dress was and is fantastic. The fabric was amazing, the twirl is great and who doesn’t love a little puff in their sleeve. This is what dreams are made of. Okay I’ll stop now. I made this in 2020 which now at the time of writing this was 2 years ago. With my skills and abilities a little more developed all i can see are the flaws in the sewing. Also it sadly doesn’t fit anymore. But i am still proud of this dress and of this project. These were my thoughts when i made and wrote about the dress 2 years ago and it is now still good to reflect on the project and how I felt about it and how I now feel about it.

For this dress I used the Simplicity K2917 dress pattern and I chose to make view A with the sleeves of view B. I had used the pattern before but I had only made the skirt. It wasn’t too difficult to understand so I thought why not do the dress? And sure enough it wasn’t too difficult. The most stressful part of the whole project was the zipper. Like the skirt, the dress calls for a lapped zipper and as a self taught person- I don’t know what to call myself “seamstress” or “tailor” – I had no clue what to do. However, with the help of some lovely ladies on a sewing Facebook group and multiple YouTube Tutorials I managed to figure it out.

For this project, I used about 2.5m of this beautiful forest green polka dot fabric that was only £1.50 a meter, my Brother AE1700 and I also got to bust out my new overlocker for this which was lots of fun. I do not own a dress form so to best show off my new favourite creation I decided to model it. And of course in the modelling of the dress I had to include parts of my parents newly acquired mini forest, to match the green of the fabric and the green eye look. I also used the e.l.f. Bite Size Eyeshadows Hot Jalapeño in an effort to explore new and more exciting colours in my makeup routine which I think turned out great!

There is something about being able to say proudly, “I made this”. I recently saw a YouTube video of a beginner sewist like myself who rightly said that if someone came up to you saying “I like your dress or I like your outfit” and you respond “Thanks I made it” you acquire instant respect from that person and for yourself as well. I think this is so true and with every new project that I successfully complete I become a little bit more confident in my skill and the excitement for the new project beams.
